This tea is what we call a converter. It takes people who say they don’t like green teas and it turns them into believers. Many love the popped rice, which adds a nutty flavor. Others like how the matcha adds creaminess and body. But almost all say that this green tea is roasty, creamy, and full-bodied with a touch of maltiness.
Ingredients
Organic Japanese Sencha Green Tea, Organic Roasted Brown Rice, Organic Matcha Green Tea
Just like many of the worlds' greatest foods, Genmaicha was created so that the Japanese working class could afford tea. People would add toasted brown rice (which was cheap and plentiful) to whatever green tea they could afford to buy. What they created was almost a fusion of flavors that melded into a unique and delicious flavor. When you add matcha it just adds one more layer of tastiness.
For this tea, we use a combination of First Flush Sencha, toasted rice, and stone ground matcha powder. The Sencha is grown in Kagoshima in southern Japan and is lightly steamed. The toasted rice is 100% organic and provides a bit of warmth and a toasty flavor. The matcha is shade grown and stone ground to an ultra fine powder using hand crafted granite stone mills.
